Can you rent a car with no deposit or credit card?

No, you cannot. When renting a car with Getaround, we require all bookings to be paid with a credit or debit card. Additionally, with each booking, a required security deposit is blocked at the time of payment automatically.

Payment requirements for your car rental
Here, we'll provide the ways to pay for your Getaround booking. Getarounds policy is digital-first, meaning we only accept digital forms of payment - never cash. See below for more details regarding our terms of payment.
Here is our guide to payment methods and settings :
- You must pay for the rental using a credit card in your own name. (NB: For Getaround Connect rentals, you can select a company card to pay for your rental.)
- Accepted: Only payments made with a VISA and MASTERCARD are accepted. We also accept VISA Electron cards.
- Not accepted: Cheques, cash, single-use credit cards, prepaid credit cards, Nickel, Maestro, Chase Manhattan, and KBC cards. PayPal is only accepted for rental charges in Germany or Austria.
- All Getaround transactions are protected by 3D Secure technology. If your card doesn't support 3D Secure, you won't be able to book or will need to check with your bank.

- When you book a car on Getaround, a security deposit is blocked at the time of payment. The amount of this deposit depends on the car category and the details of your rental. It is displayed on the booking page and can be lowered if you pick either the "Plus" or "Premium" protection plan options (when available).
- The security deposit is automatically released 7 working days after the end of your rental, provided no incident has been reported by the owner of the vehicle. In case of cancellation, the security deposit is released immediately.
- Once we release your security deposit, your bank will process it and clear your bank statement generally within the next 10 working days. Please note that some banks can take up to 30 days.
- The deposit may be debited in the event of damages to the vehicle or to cover additional fees like a late return, extra mileage, or cleaning fees.
- If the vehicle's owner reports an incident, the security deposit will be blocked for a few additional days to give our team enough time to investigate and make an informed decision. You will be notified by email if this is the case.
