How Getaround Connect® Works

Quite simply, it’s like magic!
Getaround Connect® allows drivers to unlock your vehicle remotely, making it much easier to share from the comfort of your couch.
The Getaround Connect® device is installed on hundreds of vehicles every month, so why not yours? Start by checking if it is compatible with our proprietary technology. Make sure it will be available for reservation on Getaround for at least 2 weekends per month and submit an installation request.
Verified renters are completely independent and guided through the reservation application throughout their journey. Sleep soundly.
Getaround Connect® Installation
To accept Getaround Connect® reservations, your car must first be equipped with the Getaround Connect® device, which allows it to be located and unlocked from the renter's smartphone. The installation takes 1 to 2 hours and is included in your Getaround Connect® subscription. It is carried out by highly qualified technicians, is non-invasive for your vehicle, and has absolutely no impact on its performance.
Once the device is installed, you will receive instructions by email to activate your car on our platform, and a member of our team will contact you to ensure that everything is working as expected. Your car remains 100% secure at all times: all renter identification documents are verified by Getaround before each rental, and the device has a state-of-the-art anti-theft system to protect it.
Getaround Connect® Reservation
When your car is equipped with Getaround Connect®, the reservation process takes less than 2 minutes. Renters verified by Getaround are completely independent and guided through the Getaround application throughout their journey.
How it works:
- The identities of Getaround Connect® renters are verified through facial scanning.
- Leave a pair of keys in your glove compartment and lock your car from your smartphone.
- You will be immediately notified when a renter reserves your vehicle. Their driver's license and identification documents are then verified by the Getaround team.
- Once their profile is verified, and only after this step, the renter will be able to locate your vehicle on their smartphone one hour before the start of the reservation.
- Before unlocking the vehicle and starting their rental, the renter documents the vehicle’s condition directly on the Getaround application. They are asked to take 8 photos from all angles of the vehicle.
- The renter can then unlock it from their smartphone and, if necessary, indicate the fuel level (mileage is automatically recorded by the device). You will be notified once the reservation has started. During the rental, the renter uses your car normally and leaves the keys in the Getaround pouch.
- When the rental is about to end, the renter must again take photos of the vehicle, indicate the fuel level (for vehicles not compatible with automatic adjustments), and return the keys to the Getaround pouch before being able to lock it. You will then be notified of the end of the rental by email and in the Getaround application.
Getaround Connect® Price Adjustment
For 100% compatible vehicles, mileage and fuel level are automatically recorded at the end of the rental by the Getaround Connect® device. Price adjustments based on distance traveled or fuel used are made automatically. For vehicles that are not fully compatible, the renter must manually indicate the fuel level.
If the renter travels more miles than the distance included in the reservation price, they are automatically charged for additional miles (unused miles, on the other hand, are not refundable). If the renter returns your vehicle with a fuel level lower or higher than indicated at the beginning of the rental, the difference will be calculated and charged or refunded.
