How much is a rental car for a day?

It depends. There are several factors to consider when figuring out how much a car rental costs for a day. In addition to trip duration, our pricing is based on several factors that calculate the cost, such as daily price, mileage, insurance & roadside assistance, and a Getaround service fee. Depending on these factors, the pricing of rental deals for one day will vary.
How to figure out how much your rental car will cost
There are several factors we need to consider when understanding booking prices for rental cars. At Getaround, our main factors contributing to car rental prices include:
- Trip duration: The amount of time you rent a vehicle.
- Daily price: An hour or day rate for the car set by the owner.
- Mileage: The included mileage depends on the duration of your rental. Learn more about the mileage allowance.
- Insurance & roadside assistance: Full coverage driving for all trips.
- Getaround service fee: A small fee that helps us keep the platform running smoothly. Discount codes and promotions cannot be applied to the service fee.
While your overall travel cost will depend on these main factors, additional aspects of your car hire can affect the price. Considerations like a discount code, size & model type, popular dates, when you book, the driver's age, and the country you are in, can all affect the average reservation cost as well.
A good way to figure out how much your trip will cost is to pick your trip dates, details, and location in the search bar on the Getaround homepage or app! This can help you calculate travel costs when you book your next Getaround car. No matter what kind of trip you are planning, we always aim to provide you with the best deal.
Renting a car for one day example
Here is an example of renting a car with Getaround for one day in Seattle:
First, search for a car using the Getaround app or website. Input the date and location to get started. Add in any special filters like car type, number of seats, and any extra features. The owner sets car pricing, so when looking for a car pick the car and price that aligns with your needs. Select pickup and return date and time to check for availability. Once you choose the car, e.g. X car for $46 a day, click book.
The next step is to choose an additional mileage allowance (200 miles are included), and then select a payment method. The next step is to choose a protection plan. Add extra insurance (Plus is +49.72/day or Premium +54.45/day) or decline to protect the trip ($0). Then proceed to payment.
In this example, the total amount for the trip is detailed as, 1-day rental= $46, Booking fee=$6.10, License verification fee (one time only)=$16, no added mileage=$0, Protection plan (Plus)=$49.72, Sales tax=$12.08. Additionally, there is a $50 hold placed on the card. In this case, the total to rent a car for one day in Seattle comes out to $129.90 after fees . This can vary based on if it's the first time renting, added mileage, protection plan selection, etc.
Factors that don't affect car rental prices
In case you are interested in knowing what doesn't affect rental car cost, here is a list of what the rental price doesn't include:
- Fuel: If you drop off the car with less fuel than it had at the start, you'll be charged for the missing fuel plus a refill fee. View more information on our fuel policy here.
- Extra mileage: If you plan to drive further than the included mileage for your rental, add a mileage package when booking to increase your road mileage allowance. If you drive more than your mileage allowance, you'll pay for the extra miles after the rental. Learn more about the mileage allowance.
- Plus or Premium protection plan (optional): Add this option to reduce the fees you'd have to pay in case of damage or an accident.
- Additional fees: You'll incur extra charges if you return the car late , dirty , or far away from where you were supposed to bring it back.
With Getaround, all other options are free of charge. For instance, extra bags, adding a secondary driver, or borrowing a navigation system in our vehicles are not chargeable.
