Winding Down our Carsharing service in the U.S.

Feb 12, 2025 1 min read

Dear Getaround users,

As you may have heard, we have made the difficult decision to wind down our U.S. operations. This decision was not made lightly but is part of a broader effort to streamline operations and better focus on our most strategic opportunities in Europe.

As we acknowledge the inconvenience and disruption this decision may cause to our users, we want to provide you with key information to help you manage your current rentals.

What This Means for you as a renter?

  • Rentals currently in progress and set to end on or before February 13, 2025, will continue with our full support.
  • Getaround will stop accepting new U.S. rentals after February 11, 2025.
  • Starting February 13, 2025, we might not be able to provide liability insurance coverage or the car protection program. We want to remind you that renters who continue using rented cars after this date may be personally responsible for injuries to third parties or vehicle damage. That's why we advise you to return any rented car in due time.
  • Renters in Europe will remain unaffected and may continue utilizing Getaround in all its available markets.

FAQs

1. Why are we stopping our operations in the US?
Despite significant improvements in overall profitability and extensive restructuring efforts, the Company has faced an ongoing lack of liquidity which has made US operations no longer viable.

2. What if I have a claim currently been handled?
Any outstanding U.S. claims will be addressed as part of the wind-down process.

3. Can I still rent cars in Europe?
Yes! This decision does not affect our European operations. Getaround remains available in France, Norway, Spain, Belgium, Germany, and Austria, and we look forward to welcoming you there for your future travels.

See you on the road!

While this marks the end of our journey in the U.S., our platform still operates in Europe and we would love to welcome you there for your future travels.
