What's changed
Why is there a new Getaround app?
We're making major upgrades to our North America app and unifying it with Getaround Europe. The new app is now available in all US markets, as well as seven European countries. Next time you travel to France, Norway, Belgium, Spain, the UK, Germany, or Austria, you can easily book a nearby rental car with just a few taps. No paperwork, and no waiting in line. Simply book, unlock, and drive!
What new features are in the new Getaround app?
We're enhancing your booking experience with new features like advanced search filters, a cleaner map view, automatic refunds for extra gas refueling, and discounted mileage packages for extended journeys, just to name a few!
Are there any existing features that won’t exist in the new app?
At first, we will support reservations in 30-minute intervals (vs. 15 minutes in Getaround Classic). We plan to reintroduce 15-minute reservation intervals soon.
Will I still have access to the Getaround classic app?
Yes, you will still have access to the Legacy Getaround app to view past bookings during our transition period. However, you will no longer be able to book new trips in the US with the legacy app.
Where should I book my future rentals?
Starting from January 17, 2024, any new rental in the US should be booked on the new Getaround website or mobile app. And don’t worry — if you're still using the legacy app, we’ll redirect you to the right place.
Should I create a new account?
No need to create a new account. Please log in with the authentication method used for your current Getaround account (e.g., Google, Facebook or Apple) and follow the steps to transfer your account info onto the new Getaround app. Please note: We will not transfer sensitive information such as your payment method or identity verification to the new app. You’ll be asked to input these again.
What will happen with my rental history?
We will migrate your past two-year rental history to the new app. Details for any older rentals will still be accessible in the Legacy Getaround app during our transition period. The legacy app will cease functioning once the transition period ends, and you won’t be able to check your rental history if you have not migrated to our new app.
Is my trip still covered by insurance?
Yes, you'll still have access to Getaround's Protection Plans with no changes in coverage.
Will I need to sign up for the new app and accept a new set of terms?
You won’t need to sign up as a new user, but you will need to login to the new platform with the same credentials that you use for your current Getaround account. This means if you signed up for Getaround with your Google account, you must login with your Google account for the new app. Same goes for Apple or Facebook accounts. This is critical as we’ll be using this account to migrate your associated cars onto the new platform.
We will also be sending new Terms of Service for the new platform that must be accepted in order for you to start managing your account and receiving bookings. You have two options:

- Recommended: Accept the new Terms of Service Early. You will receive messages from Getaround allowing you to access and accept these terms prior to launch, which will allow you to manage your account in the new app before it goes live.
- Log in to the new app after launch to accept the new terms and set up your cars and calendar.

Are there any existing features that won’t exist in the new app?
Yes, there are a few changes to features that are slightly different than what you might be used to, such as:
- Car filter options have been updated to include new options like EVs, number of seats, etc. Please review these new options and ensure your listing is accurate.
- CarSync car and calendar management for Getaround cars will no longer be supported
- Immobilizer (formerly called Enhanced Security) through Getaround Connect® will no longer be an optional feature that can be turned off
Will all of my cars be available on the new platform right away?
Yes, all vehicles will be available if they are not actively being rented on the old platform. Owners can only access vehicles once the new Terms of Service have been accepted.
If your vehicle is rented on the old platform during the transition, the car will not be moved to the new platform until the rental has been completed. All rentals on the old app will be forced to end 1 week after launching the new app.

Will insurance change?
No. The platform insurance coverage maintained by Getaround during trips booked on our platform will remain unchanged.
Will the claims process change?
Claims filing will now take place through the new platform on the rental page. Our claims team will no longer be able to open an incident report by phone on your behalf. You will now be required to enter the trip ID associated with the claim you are submitting.
