Owner - Understanding the search results

Article updated on 01/28/2025

How search works

When a driver starts a search, they enter an address. Dates are optional: drivers can browse cars without setting them first. They can then narrow their search using different filters (car type, transmission, features, etc.). The search algorithm ranks all relevant listings and displays them in an order optimized for the driver’s needs.

What affects your visibility

Several factors determine where your car appears in search results. Understanding these helps you improve your listing visibility and get more booking requests.

  • Your car’s location: Cars are shown within a specific radius around the address entered by the driver. The closer your car is to that point, the higher it’s likely to appear in results. Cars near train stations, airports, or popular landmarks often get seen more.
  • Driver experience quality: The average ratings for both the car and the owner have a strong impact on visibility. We also consider things that affect the driver’s experience, such as how clean the car is, how fast you reply to messages, and your cancellation rate. A consistent, reliable experience helps your listing show up more often.
  • Price: A competitive price compared to similar cars in your neighbourhood helps your car rank higher. Prices that are too high or too low can reduce visibility.
  • Listing quality: A complete listing with several clear photos, a straightforward description, and useful features (like a child seat, GPS, or Bluetooth) attracts more drivers. We also look at driver engagement: if people view and book your car often, it’ll show up higher in search.

Using search filters

Drivers can filter results by car type (city, SUV, commercial, etc.), transmission (manual or automatic), fuel type (combustion, hybrid, electric), and features (child seat, A/C, GPS, USB port, snow chains, etc.). Some filters also highlight service-related factors like the owner’s response rate.

The more your listing matches the most used filters near your car’s location, the more likely it is to appear at the top of search results.

How drivers’ preferences affect results

Each driver may see slightly different results. Their past rentals can change the order of listings they see. That means two drivers searching for the same area at the same time might not see listings in the exact same order.

New listings

When you activate a new listing, it appears in relevant search results near its address right away, even if it doesn’t have any reviews or completed trips yet. We make sure new listings are visible so they can get their first booking opportunities.

The Drivers' choice badge

Displayed directly on your listing, the Drivers' choice badge showcases vehicles that stand out for the quality of the experience provided to drivers. If your vehicle meets the eligibility criteria, the badge will appear automatically without you having to do a thing.

To earn it, a car must meet all of the following criteria over the last 12 months:

  • Receive at least 4 driver reviews for a key exchange car, or 12 driver reviews for a car equipped with Getaround Connect.
  • Maintain an average rating of 4.97 or higher.
  • For key exchange cars only, maintain great responsiveness by accepting at least 1 out of 2 rental requests.

Quality is evaluated individually for each car. If a car no longer meets these criteria, it won’t impact the visibility or status of the other cars in your fleet.
