Extending or modifying rental dates

Article updated on 11/01/2024

The extension must be made through the website or app. Renters can book for an unlimited amount of time in increments of up to 30 days (if the car calendar is available).

If you want to extend or modify your rental, go to Your rentals > [rental in question] > Extend or modify the rental. Extensions can be paid for with multiple credit cards

  • If the car has Instant Booking activated and is installed with Getaround Connect, your request will be automatically approved, so long as it doesn't reduce the price of the rental. If it does, the owner will have to manually accept your request. Please note you will only be able to ask for an extension if the days are marked as available in the car's calendar.
  • If the car doesn't have Instant Booking or Key Exchange (non-connect rentals), the owner will need to accept your request manually.

Be careful: the rental will only get extended if the payment goes through successfully or if the owner approves your request. If it doesn't, you must honor the date and time of return that were initially planned. The car has to be delivered back to the original end time of the Rental. If you return the car late, penalty fees will apply.

If the extension or modification causes a change in the price of the rental, you will be charged or refunded to the payment method originally used for the rental.

If you extend the rental, there is no need to print a second rental agreement, the initial agreement is still valid.
