Returning the car to the correct location

Article updated on 01/08/2025

At the end of your rental, you should return the car within a radius of 1/4 mile of the listing address. If you collected it from a private parking spot, you simply have to return it at the same place. It’s best to check in advance with the owner what areas are acceptable.

Additionally, be sure to return the car to a parking spot where there is no risk of a fine for at least the next 24 hours. If you fail to do so, you'll be responsible for any related costs or impoundment in the week following the end of your rental.

Street parking

In case of on-street parking, you should return the car within a radius of 1/4 mile of its listing position, as advised in your app. The owner might provide additional guidance on where to park easily, or what specific zone is not authorised. If you park the car more than 1/4 mile away from its listing position without the owner's explicit agreement, you will be subject to the following fees:

  • from 1/4 mile to 2 miles away: $35
  • from 2 miles to 10 miles away: $50
  • from 10 miles to 20 miles away: $115
  • 25 miles to 49.99 miles away: $250
  • 50 miles to 74.99 miles away: $50 + amount paid by the owner
  • 75 miles to 99.99 miles away: $50 + amount paid by the owner
  • 100 miles to 149.00 miles away: $50 + amount paid by the owner
  • 150 miles to 250 miles away:$50 + amount paid by the owner

If you are unable to find a free parking spot within 400 meters of the designated location on the rental page, you can park the car outside of this range in a free parking spot.

If you have to park the car in a spot that is not free, you are required to pay for 2 hours of parking and keep the receipt for one month. The initial 2-hour parking cost is your responsibility.

Failure to inform us within the specified timeframe may result in you being held responsible for all parking-related costs up to 24 hours after the rental has ended.

Private parking

In case of private parking, you should return the car to its designated spot, as specified by the owner. If you park the car in another spot without the owner's explicit agreement, you will be subject to the following fees:

  • other spot within the parking lot: $35
  • within a 2 mile radius outside the parking lot: $50
  • from 2 miles to 10 miles: $50
  • from 10 miles to 20 miles: $115
  • 25 miles to 49.99 miles away: $250
  • 50 miles to 74.99 miles away: $50 + amount paid by the owner
  • 75 miles to 99.99 miles away: $50 + amount paid by the owner
  • 100 miles to 149.00 miles away: $50 + amount paid by the owner
  • 150 miles to 250 miles away:$50 + amount paid by the owner

If the private parking is blocked and you are unable to park the car in a free parking spot, please inform Getaround within 30 minutes after the rental ends, either through the website or the app (My Account > Contact Getaround). You are required to pay for 2 hours of parking and keep the receipt for one month. The initial 2-hour parking cost is your responsibility.

Failure to inform us within the specified timeframe may result in you becoming responsible for covering all costs up to 24 hours after the rental has ended.

You don't need to pay for the car parking when returning the car, but please note you must return it in an authorised location. In case of bad parking followed by a ticket, it will be your responsibility.
