Disobeying traffic regulations is highly dangerous and costly. You’re responsible for any tickets you receive during your time with the car: you’re responsible for paying the fine and will lose licence points (if applicable).
If during, or after your rental an infraction is issued that falls under your responsibility, it can take up to 1 year for the issuing authority to send it. As soon as we become aware of this, we will forward the infraction to you and explain the process further.
Depending on the ticket type, the owner will either:
- contest it: you’ll receive the ticket at your address and will have to pay it directly
- pay it and inform us: you’ll be debited for the ticket amount
Either way, you will be charged an additional 15€ / kr 150 fee to compensate the owner and Getaround for managing the ticket.
Parking Tickets (Getaround Connect rentals only)
At the end of your rental, you must return the car to a parking spot where there is no risk of a fine for at least the next 48 hours. If you fail to do so, you'll be responsible for any related costs or impoundment in the 48 hours following the end of your rental.
For safety reasons, we may restrict your access to Getaround if you receive multiple tickets.
What should I do if a parking infraction has been paid twice?
If you paid an infraction directly to the parking company and Getaround also charged you on behalf of the owner, the parking company has received two payments for the same ticket.
To resolve this, please contact the parking company directly to request a refund for the duplicate payment. Make sure to ask for written confirmation showing whether the funds are being refunded to you or to the vehicle owner.
Next, send this confirmation along with the receipt of your own payment to Getaround Support.
If the parking company refunds the owner, we will refund the full amount charged through Getaround, including the 15€ / 150 NOK administration fee. If you receive the refund directly from the parking company, the Getaround charge will remain in place to cover the owner’s original expense.
