Can't unlock or lock the car

To unlock the car, go to your rental, and click on "Start the rental".

If this button isn’t available and appears grayed out, there may be a couple of reasons:

  • You haven’t verified your profile or we require additional documents in order to verify you, you can find more information about how to verify your profile in this article.
  • Your rental has not started yet. i.e the time is 10:55, and your rental is booked to start at 11:00. You have to wait until 11:00 for the button to become available, at which time it’ll turn purple.

If you have no internet connection:

Don’t worry, all our cars use Bluetooth just make sure you have bluetooth active on your mobile device and open the app before you go underground.

Once you have accessed the car, remember to keep the Getaround app open and running in the background on your phone, this ensures that the rental agreement uploads as soon as you’re back in an area with mobile phone network coverage

If the button is available, but you still cannot unlock the car:

Go to your rental and click on "Contact us" so we can help you.
