Renting with a foreign driving licence

Article updated on 11/14/2024

It's possible to rent a car on Getaround in the United States with a foreign license, but you will have to meet the Getaround conditions and new conditions may be added depending on the country that issued your license.

If you have a foreign license, you will have to provide certain documents during your profile verification. All the secondary drivers must meet the same conditions.

NB: If your foreign license is written in a different alphabet (Chinese for instance), you will need to bring the original license AND an international license or an official translation of the original license.

NB2: If your foreign license doesn't show the issue date, you will also need to submit a proof of history that shows the real date of issue for the driving license.

For cars registered in United States

There are two cases:

1) You have a driving license from the United States: you can use your original license without any additional document.

2) You have a driving license issued outside from United States, you will need to provide:

  • Your valid and original driving license

  • Your passport (with the page on which there is your date of entry on the territory)

This article contains information specific to certain registration countries. Please refer to the international version of this article for other cases.
