Driver - Guide to renting a motorhome

Article updated on 03/18/2026

Renting a motorhome on Getaround works a bit differently from regular car rental. Here's what you need to know.

Booking

You send a rental request, and the owner approves or declines. It pays to plan ahead, especially during the summer season (May–August) when demand is highest.

Key Exchange

Motorhomes use Key Exchange — you meet the owner in person to pick up the vehicle. The owner will walk you through the motorhome's features (water, electricity, gas, etc.). Take photos of the motorhome at pick-up to document its condition.

During the rental

Standard mileage is 200 km per day included. Refuel to the same level as at pick-up. Take good care of the motorhome's equipment and inventory — loose items such as camping chairs and portable grills are not covered by insurance.

Return

Meet the owner at the agreed time and place. Clean and tidy the motorhome before return, and inspect the vehicle together and take photos of its condition.

Cancellation policy

Motorhomes have their own cancellation policy, which is stricter than for regular cars:

  • Within 1 hour of payment: you receive a full refund
  • 14+ days before start: you receive a full refund
  • 7–14 days before start: you receive a 50% refund
  • Less than 7 days: you receive no refund

This is because motorhome rentals are often more expensive than regular rentals, and they block the owner's calendar for longer periods.

Insurance and roadside assistance

You are insured through Getaround during the rental, with three deductible levels. Loose items in the motorhome are not covered — take care of the equipment. If you experience a breakdown or issues on the road, contact Getaround roadside assistance directly via "Help" in the app.
