Carshare/Rideshare vs. Rideshare only

Article updated on 11/07/2024

Getaround and Uber have a partnership that allows driver partners who don't own cars to rent on Getaround to drive with Uber or Uber Eats - known as "ridesharing".

Owners can register their cars for Getaround’s Rideshare or “Drive with Uber” program with any eligible car in any eligible market. There are two different options to choose from:

Carshare/Rideshare - Cars are available to rent to both Uber drivers and personal-use drivers. Uber drivers may not have the ability to extend their rental if they book one of these cars.

Rideshare only - Cars are exclusively available to Uber drivers to rent. These cars are optimized for long-term rentals and always end with a 24 hour “Turnaround block” to ensure Owners have the opportunity to inspect and maintain their cars.

Carshare/Rideshare: Program Specifics

  • Cars are available to drivers for driving with Uber or Personal use.

  • Drivers are able to extend their rentals in increments up to 30 days.

  • Once the rental has ended, the car is available for either carshare or rideshare drivers immediately.

  • Uber drivers can book a Drive with Uber car that begins within the hour, or up to 48 hours in advance.

  • Cars can have multiple reservations scheduled at a time

Rideshare-only: Program Specifics

*previously Rideshare+

  • Only Uber-approved drivers are able to rent cars in this program. Once the rental is confirmed, Uber drivers can then start earning and have the ability to continue extending in increments of up to 30 days. No other rentals can be booked on a rented Rideshare-only car.

  • After the driver ends their rental, a 24-hour “turnaround block” will be added to the car's calendar for the owner to inspect the car and refuel. The block will be automatically removed 24 hours later or the Owner can end the block after the inspection is made.

  • Customer Support does not have the ability to remove this block. Owners are required to complete this action in the app or through their web dashboard.

  • Uber drivers can book a Rideshare-Only car that begins in as little as 1 hour or up to 48 hours in advance.

  • The minimum rental duration is automatically set at 2 hours but this can be updated by the owner

  • RS-ONLY cars are highlighted to Uber Drivers when they search in the Getaround app with the tag "Extend and pay as you drive"
