Why is Getaround suspending operations in the United Kingdom?

• Effective May 1st 2024, Getaround will be voluntarily suspending its operations in the United Kingdom after careful consideration

• This is largely due to the increasing motor insurance costs

• Our marketplace is built on flexibility and choice and we do not believe that we are able to offer the experience our community in the United Kingdom deserves at this time.

Is Getaround suspending operations anywhere else?

No. This closure only affects the United Kingdom, we are still active in Europe in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Norway and Spain, as well as across the United States.

Why so suddenly?

Despite pro actively pursuing various options to continue operating in the United Kingdom, we have been unable to overcome the challenges faced by the insurance climate. We understand that this is disappointing and will be disruptive to our community.

Can I continue to rent cars from Getaround elsewhere?

Yes! Getaround will continue to operate across Europe as well as the United States.

What if I have an active rental in the United Kingdom that extends past May 1st?

Your rental can still go ahead as planned!

What is the last day to book cars in the United Kingdom?

The last day to book a car in the United Kingdom will be April 20th 2024.

Will I get refunded for my rental that was booked after May 1st?

Yes, you will be fully refunded. You'll be refunded by bank transfer to the card used for payment within 3 working days after the cancellation. The refund may take up to 5 additional working days to appear in your account, depending on delays at your bank.

Will my account be deleted?

No, your account will remain active for as long as you want to enable you to continue using our services in Europe and North America for all your carsharing needs abroad!.
